Origins of the Karankawa Indians
The Karankawa Indians of Texas lived along the coastal plains from Galveston Bay down south to Corpus Christi Bay. They are descendants of a Caribbean tribe called the Carib. They first met the Spaniards in 1519. They became extinct by 1860 because of war and infectious diseases from the European settlers.
